What is UMIC-Mesh.net?
In conjuction with the research cluster UMIC, the the Department of Computer Science 4 is building up a hybrid wireless mesh network testbed - UMIC-Mesh.net. The goal of this project is twofold. From the scientific point of view the goal is to build a large and scalable mesh network to conduct various networking studies. From the application point of view the goal is to provide the members of the Computer Science Department and the students with a simple and comfortable way to get high bandwidth network access anywhere in the computer science center.
Currently the UMIC-Mesh.net consists of 51 IEEE 802.11a/b/g based mesh routers, among which several of them are connected to Internet, i.e., they serve as gateway to the Internet. The testbed also consists of several laptops equipped with IEEE 802.11b/g cards located in various rooms at the department of computer science.
